Elgin is a luthier who came to The Violin Shop from Melbourne, FL with 10 plus years experience working on violin family instruments. Elgin’s musical interests grew with intensity when he began playing guitar at around age 10. He was influenced by seeing his Grandfather playing guitar and singing Johnny Cash songs. Additionally being impressed watching friends enjoying whittling and woodworking, he saw the two interests come together when he ran into a local violin shop and got his first job setting up and restoring violins, violas, celli and basses.
Elgin enjoys how instrument restoration is a constant practice in adapting to new challenges and the relief and appreciation of the client getting back a renewed instrument, like a dear, old friend. Besides being a luthier, Elgin loves hiking, reading in coffee shops and restoring old rifles.
