Austin Derryberry

Workshop/Rentals

Austin Derryberry is a luthier and old-time fiddler born and raised in Middle Tennessee. He began playing fiddle at age five and grew up attending old-time fiddler’s conventions throughout the southeastern United States, where his fascination with instruments and traditional music took root. He has won numerous old-time fiddle contests throughout the United States, including the Traditional Category at the Grand Masters Fiddle Championship in 2019, which included a performance on the Grand Ole Opry. Austin also leads and performs regularly with old-time string band, Uncle Shuffelo and his Haint Hollow Hootenanny.

At fifteen, Austin built his first violin under the guidance of master violin maker Charles Horner, which led to a lifelong friendship and formal apprenticeship through the Tennessee Arts Commission in 2017. Austin has since built violins and custom guitars at his home workshop in Unionville, Tennessee. Austin also served as Lead Luthier at Gallagher Guitar Company from 2019–2025, contributing to over 600 acoustic guitars with a focus on body construction, brace carving, and tonal testing.

In his free time, Austin enjoys working on vintage automobiles from the 1920s and ’30s, building custom instruments, playing music, and spending time with his wife, Courtney, and their son, Charlie.
